Purpose of the Beginner forum

   We have opened this new forum to try and provide a place where beginners can ask questions about sailing - whether about how to sail, how to have a go, how to get a boat....anything!

We welcome newcomers, and there are no 'stupid questions' so don't be afraid to ask. 

Y&Y have created the website www.newtosailing.com which links here too.

Hopefully all questions will be answered nicely (hint hint) after a day or two!

	Well, I was going to link this to my club site, but then I realised the site makes little or no mention of how to choose a club and how you can gain certificates and progress locally rather than needing to go abroad to do this. Obviously since the site is sponsored by Sunsaul it doesn't do this, and disappointingly, does no more then redirect UK learners to the rya website. I do know that y&y is a commercial organisation and needs to pay the bills like we all do, but it would have been nice to see more support given to uk clubs and sailing centres. It would also have been a good idea to include how to look for quality assurance provided by RYA (or similar) recognition status.

	Hi, NewToSailing is not sponsored by Sunsail, although some of the holiday reviews were. It is a joint venture between ISAF and Y&Y (as a 'Connect to Sailing' partner) and carries a variety of advertisers to pay for the time it took to build and maintain. You may feel it seems to just redirect people back to the RYA, but that is becuase NewToSailing is intended for worldwide readers, and we cannot dedicate special emphasis on UK residents. We have tried to make sure the right sort of advice for people in any country is available, and have no hesitation in directing them onto their 'local' body as that is where they will find specifics like clubs and courses. The site is designed for those with a vague interest in the sport, who would like to answer typical questions. We try to offer general encouragement. Once they become 'beginners' we expect their regional body to provide a better level of online assistance. I hope that makes sense with respect to your concerns.

	clearly you have not attempted navigating the rya website.... but that is their probelm, not yours... thanks for the explanation

	I just moved to the UK and most of my friends here are very keen sailors, so the pressure is on to learn... I've wanted to take classes for quiet some time. Any recommendations on which sailing course to go through?
