Hi anybody who has ever tried there and at instructing (or just sailing maybe) knows that feeling when its just too manic or there just isn't enough wind to send the kids out.

Just wandering if anybody has any ideas for shorebased games that are fun and might help sailing skills/knowledge.  Usually watch skiff vids or do quizes, but i think all the kids (and instructors) are gettin fed up with that.

Any ideas, before i result to making them tcut my laser hull?

Paddling races in oppies whenthere is no wind if it is warm and sunny!!

A good one I have for getting roudy kids to be quiet works like this:

Get them to sit in a circle, what they have to do is between them count to 21 (or 10 if they are little or just plane thick).  The thing is they must have their eyes shut and not say anything other than a number.  If two people speak at once then the group has to start again, will keep most kiads amuused for a good 20 min or so.

P.S.   This also works great as a drinking game, you dont have to have your eyes shut (its only to stop the kids pointing at eachother), if people do call a number at the same time they must drink.  If you get to 21 then the person who says 21 changes one of the numbers for a different word for subsequent rounds.  (for extra fun make people stand up to say a number)

Knot tying, boat rigging, rules, flags, starting, windshifts, boat trim, explain team racing, explain match racing, talk about fitness, diet, resusitation, classes of boat and wear them out with running - so do time trials, relays, elimination series and then you can have rigging and de-rigging races and there's always football.
