Soto40 World Championship in Florianopolis, Brazil - Day 1

by Soto 40 media team 12 Apr 2015 20:46 UTC 12-14 April 2015

The races started today in the Soto40 World Championship in Florianopolis, Brazil. Norberto Alvarez Vitale' Patagonia has kept the first place in both races that were disputed.

After about an hour of delay due to lack of wind, was begun the first race with 8 knots of wind from the southeast. Patagonia was the only one who decided to start on the right side of the race course near the committee. Since then, they have led the fleet, that allows them to arrive first to the windward mark on the first and third leg and first also to the leeward gate. The second place was to Crioula of Veleiros Do Sul and the third to Eduardo De Souza Ramos' Pajero.

Patagonia was also lucky in the second race of the day, achieving first position passing the windward mark on the first and third leg, and arriving first to the finish line. The second place went to Crioula again and the third was for Jorge Araneda' Santander.

This morning Lucas Ezequiel Vescio, international secretary of the class and navigator of the Patagonia, told us: "I believe that this World Championship is the gem of the South American Tour, with the integration of the fleets of the Pacific and the Atlantic, and also having European participation. Having accomplished this between 2014 and 2015 has generated great expectations for the Soto 40 Class. We are consolidating the 2016 calendar in which there will be doing again a South American Tour and possibly return here to Florianopolis as it has achieved a very good championship thanks to Mitsubishi, and the sponsorship that is giving us."

The races will continue to broadcast live www.soto40.org/posicionadores.php
