The sailing season is winding down across much of the Northern Hemisphere, but that doesn't mean the work on your boat is done for the year. "The upcoming winter months are the best opportunity for sailors to refit their boat for when the warmer winds return," says Matt Eeles, Product Director at B&G, the world's leading sailing navigation and instrument specialists.

"Technology has progressed so much over the last few years, but there's six particular aspects as to why now is a good time to refit your electronics," adds Eeles. "One, you'll spend less time preparing and more time sailing later on; two, sailors will have access to more reliable and accurate sailing information; three, your readings will be easier and more accessible; four, users will get more sailing-specific technology with newer devices; five, your power usage will be more efficent and lastly, your electronics is easier then ever to install."

Now with the newly-launched B&G companion app, sailors also can count on improved integration with their devices using their smartphones to sync with their chartplotters right from the palm of their hand.

"This is a terrific planning tool for next year... and is a great way to explore the latest charts, new anchorages or create your routes from the comfort of your home," said Eeles. "Whether cruising or racing, the B&G campanion app provides an on-off boat experience that translate into more time sailing."

"Best of all, for most, only a few key electronics is needed to dramatically improve your sailing experience and you don't always need to replace everything," added Eeles.

A typical full B&G refit for a 30ft cruising boat could include a WS300 wind sensor, a B&G Vulcan chartplotter, a VHF and a DST810 sensor only costing approx £2300 (about $3150).
