Evolution Marine Manufacturing announces the build of the EVO 60 Performance Sailing Catamaran

by Evolution Marine Manufacturing 11 Oct 2024 08:36 UTC

Evolution Marine Manufacturing, based in Cape Town, is proud to announce the construction of the EVO 60, a high-performance, luxury sailing catamaran. Evolution Marine, led by veteran composites specialist and boatbuilder Oliver Dawson, has become synonymous with excellence in the marine industry.

With over 30 years of experience, Dawson heads a skilled team of boatbuilders known for their selective approach to niche, performance driven projects, ensuring that each build reflects their craftsmanship, passion and attention to detail.

A new standard in performance sailing

The EVO 60 Performance Sailing Catamaran is a testament to Evolution Marine Manufacturing's dedication to building top-tier vessels. Designed by the award-winning yacht design firm Du Toit Yacht Design, headed by Anton Du Toit, the EVO 60 promises outstanding performance, superior luxury, and versatility. Founded in 2001, Du Toit Yacht Design has earned its place as one of the premier yacht design firms. Both Anton and project lead, Sean Van Rensburg bring years of cruising and racing experience to their designs.

Innovative design and high-performance features

The EVO 60, while designed for speed and comfort, boasts an exceptional balance between liveability and luxury, while maintaining above-average power-to-weight ratios. Fully infused, this E-glass/Carbon epoxy structure delivers an extremely stiff, durable, and insulated structure. With approximately 80% carbon, the design team has delivered in its brief, ensuring a strong, safe, high-performance catamaran.

Unique articulating helm and sailing experience

The catamaran features carbon appendages, rig, boom, longeron, and crossbeam, as well as an evolutionary articulating helm position, which is an upgrade from the pivot systems currently available off the shelf. The system gives sailors a unique experience (with a twist) both in the inboard comfort position as well as the outboard performance mode. This unique EVO Helm provides a monohull-like sailing experience, especially in the outboard performance mode. The EVO 60 has been designed with both comfort cruising and performance in mind, offering owners the option to participate in regattas, enjoy luxurious coastal cruising, or knock off big blue water miles in comfort.

Luxurious interiors with a focus on comfort and style

The interior features a sleek, modern aesthetic with meticulous attention to detail, perfectly balancing sophistication with spacious areas for socialising and relaxation. The interior was thoughtfully designed with comfort and functionality in mind, showcasing innovative design concepts, optimal space utilisation, and a timeless, homely feel. The new EVO 60 is pushing the boundaries to create an amazing interior, matching the highest standards of quality and design.

Owner's and guest accommodation

The layout includes a full port-side owner's hull with a transverse berth, dressing area, double vanity, separate shower, and a private head. The starboard hull is designed for guests, featuring cabins that offer similar levels of comfort.

Galley and saloon designed for social connectivity

The EVO 60 features a galley that caters to culinary enthusiasts of all levels. With ample countertop space and premium appliances, the space ensures a seamless cooking experience for all onboard. The saloon creates an inviting space designed to bring friends and family together while everyone can maintain visual connectivity with those busy in the galley. Key features include a spacious dining table and a custom-designed sofa for ultimate comfort.

Cockpit: an outdoor hub for socialising and relaxation

The main deck layout cleverly strikes the perfect balance between intimacy and openness, making it an ideal hub for social gatherings. As you transition from the interior to the cockpit, the seamless flow creates a harmonious connection between inside and out. The cockpit features a spacious, multi-purpose daybed for lounging and a versatile dining area that can convert to a second daybed.

Tailored interior themes and customisation options

The EVO 60's interior offers unparalleled customisation possibilities, catering to individual tastes and preferences. Clients can choose from three distinct design themes, including colours and top-quality finishes relating to 'Nautical Escape' (evoking the classic elegance of the sea), 'African Odyssey' (infusing warm, earthy tones and textures), and 'Less is More' (embracing clean lines and sleek sophistication).

Optimised rigging and ease of sailing

The EVO 60's sail plan and rigging are optimised for performance. With its powerful sail configuration and light displacement, the catamaran is built to handle a wide range of wind conditions with agility and speed. Ease of sailing is a priority, and for this reason, the deck layout, positioning of control lines, electric winches, push-button controls, hydraulic main, and self-tacking jib make the EVO 60 ideal for shorthanded sailing.

Building the future of luxury blue water sailing

She is a true Luxury Blue Water Sailing Catamaran, blending the thrill of performance sailing with the elegance and opulent comforts of a modern superyacht, or if you like, just a toned-down, fast-moving family home on water.

The first EVO 60 is currently in build and is expected to be commissioned and sea-trialled in the last quarter of 2025.
