The fifth stage of the 2026 29er EuroCup has officially started in Malcesine, with a full opening day of racing on Lake Garda. A strong first day saw 4 races completed across 2 fleets, with 74 boats on the starting line.

Conditions were shaped by a steady southerly breeze, building throughout the day from 14 to 18 knots, offering consistent and exciting racing for the entire fleet.

Clean starts proved to be one of the key elements of the day, with teams needing to stay sharp from the very first signal.

While many sailors are familiar with the northern part of Lake Garda, racing in Malcesine brought a different challenge, with new wind angles and tactical decisions throughout the course.

After the opening day, the provisional overall podium is led by Alexandre Mostini and Raphaël Allain (FRA), followed by Lukas Wagner and Valentin Ziegler (GER) in second place, with Luca Scopsi and Edoardo Porchera (ITA) currently in third.

Category leaders after Day 1:

Female: Marchesini / Finato
Mixed: Salvatore / Rizzi
U17 Male: Kiu / Polson
U17 Female: Kommaravelly / Suragani
U17 Mixed: Hummel / Hummel
Top Over 18: Csekovszky / Zarandy

Tomorrow is expected to bring another great day of racing with the arrival of the classic Ora wind.

It will also mark the final day of the qualification series, before the fleet moves into the next phase of the event.
