Finn Class News - May 2026

IFA Survey on GPS devices
for race management

The Finn Class has always embraced innovation where it improves the quality, fairness and integrity of our racing, while preserving the essential character of the boat and the sailor-driven nature of competition that defines Finn sailing.

The advent of GPS devices and race management technologies is a hot topic and as part of a broader discussion, the class has been investigating whether these may assist in maintaining and potentially improving the integrity, fairness and consistency of racing at Finn events.

To better understand the views of the championship sailors in the class there is a quick questionnaire HERE.

IFA has also published a position paper HERE.

The survey is a first step but it is not a decision making process. It has been designed around those who have attended recent major events to gather first opinions. Wider class consultation will follow.

South American Championship 2026
in Rio alongside the SSL Gold Cup Finals

The 2026 Finn South American Championship will be held from 18 to 22 November 2026 at the Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro, one of Brazil's most traditional yacht clubs and a historic venue for major international sailing events.

This year's championship will have a particularly special setting, as it will take place during the same period as the SSL Gold Cup Finals, with several sailing events and activities taking place in Rio de Janeiro. This will create a unique opportunity to promote the Finn Class in South America and to bring together sailors from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and other countries in a highly visible international sailing environment.

Further information, including the Notice of Race, entry details and the event programme, will be published shortly.

The Brazilian Finn Class warmly invites all Finn sailors to reserve the dates and join them in Rio de Janeiro for what is hoped will be a memorable celebration of Finn sailing in the region.
