ORC unveils the 52.2

by Grand Large Yachting 2 Jun 14:01 UTC

ORC, the fast catamaran brand of the Grand Large Yachting group, today reveals the ORC 52.2, the mature evolution of the cult ORC 50.

Designed by naval architect Christophe Barreau with interiors by Darnet Design, the 52.2 formally introduces Freesailing, a category created for sailors who refuse to trade the pleasure of sailing for additional square metres.

As the cruising catamaran market has been pushed for a decade toward longer, heavier and more equipped platforms, the ORC 52.2 takes the opposite road. 15.84 m hull, 10.5 tonnes standard yard weight, 145.7 m² of upwind sail area, daggerboards, carbon tillers, infused composite and a carbon structure. The boat is engineered to preserve the acceleration, glide and direct feel that built the reputation of the ORC 50, while meeting the expectations of owners who want a more natural life on board.

Four core evolutions separate the 52.2 from its predecessor. A redesigned interior developed with Darnet Design: materials, textiles and light bring a new warmth on board. A reworked liveaboard ergonomics for long-distance cruising. Improved exterior circulation thanks to redrawn aft skirts. And a stronger connection with daylight throughout the living areas. Nothing has been added to impress. Every decision serves the experience on board.

"The cruising catamaran segment has lived through a decade of expansion that pulled the product away from what it was built for: sailing. The ORC 52.2 does not renounce any of the ORC DNA. It simply makes that DNA accessible to those who want to live aboard without giving up the act of sailing," said Xavier Desmarest, CEO of Grand Large Yachting. The boat is built for offshore couples, experienced families and sailors returning to more essential codes. Hand-built in Lorient by Marsaudon Composites, founded in 1999 and part of Grand Large Yachting since 2023, the ORC 52.2 extends the lineage of the ORC 50, championed since its launch by a demanding community of sailors. CE Category A certified.

The first 52.2 left Lorient La Base on 19 March 2026. Production is kept deliberately limited to preserve the standards of the yard. Base price ex-yard: €1,100,000 excl. VAT."
