Yesterday marked the start of the four-day Cowes Classics Regatta in Cowes. The strong winds in the Solent meant that racing was cancelled for the day, but that did nothing to dull the spirit of the event.

Although competitors were unable to get out on the racecourse, the day still provided an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together ahead of the regatta. Following the competitor briefing many took the opportunity to join one of the race masterclasses to brush up on race techniques.

In the afternoon competitors were privileged to be able to have a private tour of the renowned Ratsey & Lapthorn sail loft. Gaining a fascinating insight into the craftsmanship and heritage behind one of the world's oldest sailmaking businesses.

Tim Hancock, PRO, said, "The first day of the 2026 Cowes Classics Regatta was a frustrating one for both the competitors and race management teams. A strong SW wind was forecast with a gust up to 40m knots, so racing was called off in the morning. This evening everyone is looking forward to our Pre-Regatta drink and dinner"

The evening's supper at the clubhouse was attended by competitors, owners, supporters and guests. A wonderful opportunity for participants to celebrate the start of the regatta.

Racing is scheduled to begin today (5th June), with fourteen races planned across the fleets. With three days of competition still to come, crews will be eager to make the most of the forecast conditions and begin their campaigns in what promises to be an exciting regatta.

The Cowes Classics Regatta is proud to be supported by a number of partners whose generosity helps deliver both the racing and social programme throughout the event:
