The 2026 Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Regatta and Shipyard Cup challenge may have been cut short due to high winds on the second scheduled day of sailing, but that did not damped the CYCS fleet's spirits or lessen the competition!

While some of the fleet sailed two races in the regatta, the Spirit of Tradition and Vintage Divisions competed in one, extended 11 mile race during the regatta. With gusts higher than 25 knots, the race committee made the call to cancel racing on Sunday, July 19. However, the parties were still lively and sailors were happy with a great regatta all around.

Now with enough races having been held, Black Watch and its rotating team of skippers are the first boat to officially qualify for the overall CYCS standings, having competed in five races across three different events in at least two districts. Black Watch has raced in every event of the 2026 season so far and has a cumulative score of 400 points out of a possible 500 points.

Ponyo, Paul Koch's Camden Class sloop may well be the next boat to qualify, having four races completed this year. Ponyo topped the Boothbay podium in the Classics Daysailers Division. Chris Bouzaid's 30 Square Meter Bijou II won the Classics Division, and Andy Tyska's 12 Metre GLEAM took home the title in the Vintage Division. Don Smith's Falcon, a Brooklin 76 topped the two boat Spirit of Tradition Class.

On deck for the CYCS is the 10th anniversary edition of the Camden Classics Cup scheduled for July 23-25 at Lyman-Morse in Camden, Maine. A healthy fleet of 85 yachts is currently on the scratch sheet. This regatta is known for its stunning setting close to Camden's downtown, its lively parade of sail, and its free youth regatta.

The leaderboard in each division is likely to start filling in quickly after this weekend, with multiple top contenders in the CYCS heading up to Camden. The 2026 CYCS scoreboard is updated following each regatta and can be found at ClassicYachts.org/Results. As more boats meet the qualification threshold, their overall ranking will appear next to their points total.

Now that the 2026 CYCS is in full swing, stay tuned to the CYOA Facebook, Instagram, and website for updates and results. Good luck to all competitors at the Camden Classics Cup!
