Handicap win for Another Duchess

by Sail-World on 18 Aug 2003
The modified Davidson 60 Another Duchess, won the Coral Sea race on both line honours and handicap.

A very pleased Bob Oatley dockside last night ‘Winning the Admiral’s Cup with Wild Oats has given us a lot of confidence. We rejuventated Another Duchess with a new keel and rudder and she performed beautifully today. The competiton was very stiff, and we were thrilled to come out on top.’

‘The racing was superb, I think this is best place in the world to race. We really enjoyed it out there today, the conditions were idyllic, sunshine and a beautiful breeze.’ ‘We came here to win and it was great fun to win today!’.

Helmsman Mark ‘Richo’ Richards was happy with the result too.

‘We’ve fitted a new rudder and keel and today was really the first time were sailed closely against other boats. Before this we really had no idea how were going to go.

Typical Hamilton Island racing today. Beautiful sailing 15-18 knots of breeze

We had good boat speed and with half of our Admiral’s Cup crew on board, good crew work. We were not surprised that we beat the Volvo 60 as they did not have the reaching conditions they needed. With the tide going against the fleet and wind dying away, we were well placed for a good handicap result’.
