Tall Ships Lord Nelson and Europa departing Sydney SW
A first ever! Seven tall ships from six countries have set sail in the Sydney to Auckland Tall Ships Regatta. The majestic vessels are expected to sail into the New Zealand harbour in about nine days.

This Regatta is the first international tall ship event to be held in the Southern Hemisphere. And it has been a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages to take part in a world class event.

All sixteen Tall Ships visiting Australia for the International Fleet Review embarked crew and left Darling Harbour late morning, mustering on the Harbour from 1:00pm yesterday, but only seven are officially in a race.

The tall ships are: EUROPA, Netherlands; LORD NELSON, United Kingdom; OOSTERSCHELDE Netherlands; PICTON CASTLE, Cook Islands; SPIRIT OF NEW ZEALAND, New Zealand; TECLA Netherlands; YOUNG ENDEAVOUR, Australia

Then, after the nine day voyage it will be: Welcome to Auckland! - a port city close to beautiful beaches, hiking trails and a dozen enchanted holiday islands.

On 25 October 2013 the Tall Ship Fleet, led by Spirit of New Zealand will sail into Auckland Harbour for a three day festival including street parades, bands, ship tours and a Royal New Zelaand Navy salute!.

New Zealanders and others lucky enough to be in New Zealand at the time can join the flotilla on the water or watch from around the Waitemata Harbour as these beautiful boats are guided to Queens and Princes Wharves
