RNLI support a lugger round Ireland

by Gail MacAllister on 28 Mar 2015
Drascombe Lugger Irish Sailing Association . http://www.sailing.ie
In June 2015 Nathaniel and Fergus Ogden will sail around Ireland in Lughnasa, an open 18ft9 Drascombe Lugger. They are beginning the 1000 mile journey in Baltimore, Co. Cork and going West, sailing clockwise around the country.

The lads will be used the ISA Safe Trx App so their Emergency Contacts and the Coastguard will be able to track them. ISA Safe Trx is a free app that monitors your boat journeys and if the Coast Guard are called, they can track you quickly.

They are expecting the voyage to take about a month, however this is heavily dependent on the unpredictable weather along the Atlantic Coast. You can follow their story here

They are undertaking this circumnavigation in aid of the RNLI - the British and Irish lifeboats.

The RNLI are supporting the adventure and keeping one eye on their progress, but they would really like to have a comprehensive list of 'helpful local port ambassadors' that they could call upon for a friendly face in port or to advise on local facilities. If you are happy one of those friendly faces and share your mobile number with them please do email us on communications@sailing.ie with your mobile number and location. Thanks a mill.
