New Whittley Sea Legend offshore performance packages

The latest models in the Sea Legend (SL) range have just rolled out of the Whittley factory in Somerton headed to the Melbourne Boat Show on June 16-19. The new additions to the Sea Legend family are the SL 20 and SL 25 HT.

The baby of the SL fleet, the SL 20, is 6.37m in length, but has all the big-boat attributes of its larger SL cousins. The SL 20 offers a legendary offshore fibreglass ride with a deep-vee hull that’s 23 degrees at the transom. It looks as good as it performs with a new-look cabin entry sitting in front of the most comfortable seats in the 6m class.

Underfoot, there’s a moulded fibreglass floor with non-slip diamond tread and Whittley’s premium rubber flooring in the front cabin, as well as a fish ruler. There’s no compromise in the cabin with a full-length double V-berth (identical dimensions to the SL 22) as well as a full headlining as standard.

The fishing features come thick and fast on the SL 20, with moulded side pockets, two solid esky/kill tanks and four stainless rod holders. The standard package also includes front and side clears, alloy rocket launchers, a vinyl cabin divider, Garmin 4.5” GPS/FF and Bennett SLT trim tabs.

Whittley Marine Director of Sales and Marketing Alan Whittley says, “The deep-vee SL hull is a proven performer on the water, but the market was crying out for a 6m version. We can now offer the SL 20 at an affordable price that doesn’t compromise on the famous Whittley fibreglass ride and handling.”

Whittley has packaged the SL20 with a high-quality Mackay Dual Axle Electric Braked Trailer and Volvo Penta’s V6 200 G SX engine. Alan says, “high-performance offshore fishing has never been more affordable.” BMT packages are available from $77,490, excluding freight and dealer delivery charges.

The other new model is the SL 25 HT, an evolution of the award-winning* SL 24. It also features a 23 degree dead-rise hull below decks, but it’s above the water where the changes are more obvious. The SL 25 HT features an all-new lockable cabin door and stylish hardtop. The rear features a moulded fishing platform, while inside the cockpit there’s a removable 150L kill tank beneath a computer-cut rubber flooring system. A 30L plumbed live bait tank is moulded into the transom.

As Alan says, “It’s the perfect high-performance tourer with high-level creature comforts upstairs and a legendary ride downstairs. It comes standard with a full length windscreen, slide-out fridge and fibreglass moulded hard top as standard.” SL 25 HT BMT packages are available from $129,990 and include Volvo’s new Battery Control Module, Engine Management System and Garmin 7” Multi Function GPS/FF.

Both new models offer the option of the new Whittley Pulse System and can house up to a 16” Garmin multi-function or Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit display. Alan believes the Volvo stern-drive configuration makes the Sea Legend come alive on the water, with low-down weight characteristics that enhance hull dynamics and balance, unseen in outboard offerings.

The next-generation Volvo engines are available in petrol or diesel configurations, and feature alloy blocks and freshwater cooling jackets to promote longevity. Alan reckons, “The direct-injection Volvo fuel system delivers 15 per cent better fuel economy and 10 per cent better hole-shot over outboards due to the variable valve timing. It’s all delivered through the optional Volvo’s duo-prop drive system that grips on the water like no other prop system in the world. The new Sea Legend range gives you all the benefits of a stern-drive while overcoming some of the perceptions associated with stern-drive power.”

The addition of the new SL 20 and SL 25 HT completes the Sea Legend line-up: five models starting from $77,490 and heading to packages worth $320,000. It’s working for them. As Mr. Whittley continued to say, “The SL variant has seen unprecedented growth in the past four years. The Sea Legend family of boats now represents 40 per cent of Whittley’s total sales volume and the new SL 20 now brings legendary stern-drive performance and advancements in a sub $80,000 sports fishing boat package.”

Whittley will have the largest single boat display at this year’s Melbourne Boat Show. Both new models will be on display June 16-19at stand D4.
