Riviera reveals details of two new under 40-foot motor yachts

by Riviera Australia on 4 Aug 2017
New Riviera 39 Open Flybridge - the first sub-40-foot model from Riviera in nearly a decade. Riviera Australia
Australia's most awarded luxury motor yacht builder, Riviera, has announced two exciting new models to its expanding collection, the company's first new under-40-foot models in nearly a decade.

Details of the new blue-water 39-foot Open Flybridge model and a sporty and adventurous 395 SUV were unveiled during the Sydney International Boat Show which opened on Thursday, August 3.

Both models will have their World Premieres in 2018.

The two models share a new hull and deck design, offering two generous staterooms and a bathroom on the accommodation deck, a spacious saloon and a cockpit perfectly designed for relaxing and entertaining or for a raft of water sports, from fishing to diving.

Both models offer features and options not seen in these two collections previously.

Riviera owner and Chairman Rodney Longhurst said the new models provide a compelling new entree to the Riviera family.

'These new models offer exceptional boating options in an easy-to-handle size - the go-anywhere attributes of our classic blue-water flybridge collection and the single-level entertaining that is in the DNA of our popular SUV collection,' said Mr Longhurst.

'In these models, we have introduced a number of innovations that take the flybridge and SUV models to the next stage in Riviera's process of continuous improvement. Among them are raised bulwarks on the side decks and we have introduced a foredeck sunlounge option on the flybridge model. The SUV collection has always offered this option.'

Abundant accommodation

The lower deck provides sleeping accommodation in comfort for five adults in two cabins; a forward master stateroom with queen-size walk-around double bed and a midships cabin with three single berths.

The master stateroom includes a wardrobe on the port side aft quarter as well as overhead lockers and shelving for personal items.

The midships cabin includes a wardrobe at the entry. The twin beds on the starboard side can be converted with an infill into a large double bed. Ample storage is available under the twin beds and a clever two-metre-long storage cabinet is overhead, above the port bed, suitable for rod or lifejacket storage.

The generous-size bathroom includes a vanity, Vacuflush toilet and separate shower stall. With two-way access, the bathroom can be utilised as the master ensuite and day head.

Light and fresh air throughout the accommodation deck is introduced by a clever design of windows, portholes and deck hatches. The master stateroom includes a aft-opening deck hatch with insect screen and blind. Hull windows on both sides add more light. In the midships cabin, light is provided by generous windows, equipped on both sides with opening portholes. The bathroom has a deck hatch, hull window and an opening porthole.

Light and luxurious saloon

In the saloon, a lower helm and companion seat on the port side forward are standard, with the U-shape galley opposite.

The galley includes a two-burner electric cooktop, under-bench convection microwave and under-bench fridge-freezer. There is also a pull-out garbage unit.

The dining area with L-shape seating is aft on the port side and a raised lounge is positioned opposite, offering sweeping views through the wrap-around windows, windscreen and aft through the glass bulkhead door and awning window.

A 32-inch TV is positioned in the starboard aft quarter, making it viewable from every part of the saloon. Entertainment can also be provided through the radio and CD sound system with iPod interface.

The tinted-glass bulkhead between saloon and cockpit is made up of a fixed window behind the starboard-side lounge, an outward-opening stainless steel framed glass door and awning window on the port side.

Entertainers' and adventurers' cockpit

The cockpit is a generous space for entertaining and is also the perfect platform for all manner of water sports, with lockers along port and starboard sides, an under-floor storage or fish bin and a counter-top cabinet in the port forward quarter, below the awning window. The cabinet includes a moulded sink with mixer tap, storage space under and an optional icemaker. A freezer is located in the starboard forward quarter, under the ladder in the flybridge model.

An L-shape lounge in the port aft quarter of the cockpit is available as an option on both models, creating an immediate entertaining space and an ideal extension to the saloon. The lounge includes an icebox under the lift-up seat.

Even more storage is available in a locker on the outboard side of the transom which is perfect for lines oars, hoses and washing utensils.

Optional IPS joysticks are available in the port or starboard quarters of the cockpit.

Another feature new to the Riviera flybridge and SUV collections is raised bulwarks on the side decks. The raised bulwarks, which are up to 100mm in height from the deck, provide an additional level of security when moving forward or aft along the side decks.

Sunlovers will enjoy a moulded inset in the foredeck that can take a large sunlounge pod with integrated drink holders. This feature is well loved among SUV and Sport Yacht owners and is new to the flybridge collection.

In the flybridge model, a ladder on the starboard side from cockpit leads up to the bridge, either open or covered with an optional bimini top. This is a commanding space for skipper and guests, with aft port side Pompanette helm and companion seats providing a 360-degree view and an L-space lounge with dinette table forward.

Power for the 39 flybridge and 395 SUV models comes from twin Volvo D6 IPS 500 turbo diesel engines providing 272kw (370hp) with IPS 10 drive units.

The proven performance of IPS offers excellent power-to-weight ratio, spirited performance, enhanced torque, improved fuel efficiency, simple slow-speed joystick maneuverability and quiet operation thanks to under-water exhausts. The system includes electronic variable rate steering and electronic controls including a joystick for slow speed manoeuvrability. The drive units are protected by the Volvo Penta Active Corrosion Protection System to complement sacrificial anodes and line cutters. All Volvo Penta components and electronics are covered by a five-year/1,000 hour warranty for further peace of mind.
