Satori is for sale

by Satori on 9 Aug 2017
Satori - 50ft McConaghy built performance cruiser Satori
This 50ft McConaghy built performance cruiser is effectively a mini Wally. In-boom furling, self-tacking and hydraulic driven everything through push button controls that really work. You just need to trim your nails before sailing! It really is a boat that you can sail on your own, but nice to have company to show it off!

Composite E glass/closed cell foam and carbon structure make this a super light cruising boat at under 11 tons. Carbon mast and boom with beautiful North 3DL sails make it a speed machine. A gennaker in a sock will give you great downwind speed and very easy to set on your own or with a crew member. Lifting keel - 2m up and 3m down. Very useful for shallow quiet anchorages. This boat is fully equipped for comfortable/long distance cruising. It has been immaculately maintained and is completely sorted. Please see below for more information. No tyre kickers please.

Further Details:

Satori developed from the idea of building a 50 ft Wally Boat for Australian waters. Wally were only building 70 ft plus boats at that time – so the owner approached John McConaghy/McConaghy Boats to see if they could deliver the brief. And deliver it they did with a very advanced hydraulic sail handling system and an elegant fit out in the style of a mini superyacht.

Satori has been sailed up and down the East Coast of Australia since its launch in May 2001, travelling as far as the Whitsundays for Hamilton Island race week while adding further family cruising in the Whitsunday Islands thereafter. It is equipped at Cat 2 level if required, but is currently approved for Cat 7 – twilight and mid-week racing. The boat has provided a wonderful platform for family and social sailing as well as for competitive sailing in the cruising division. It has been used year-round since its launch in May 2001 with a major refit in 2011 and more recent upgrades in the hydraulic power pack, rams, fridge/freezer management and house batteries (Lithium Ion upgrade). This boat is completely sorted. The halyards, sheets and spare leads are all new. Yearly maintenance has seen the boat on hardstand for a complete review of all underwater fittings including keel withdrawal/inspection and new antifouling.

The boat has a powerful rig and is fully powered up at 8 knots with reefing starting at 18 knots if not racing. Depowering the boat with an in-boom furling system is easy and makes the boat handle beautifully in 20 to 25 knots. There is not a cruising boat of this length on Sydney Harbour that can beat this boat upwind or downwind.

Sailing the boat is a pleasure. Its sailing systems were copied from the great Wally Boats in Italy. Magic rams under floor and associated buttons control the main and jib - In and Out, and with self-tacking and in boom furling. All points of sail are very exciting as the powerful sail plan is dressed with North 3DL Marathon sails. These sails and controls allow the skipper to set up the boat with race performance on a cruising boat.

Internal accommodation is organised with a Master Cabin with ensuite in the forepeak, a larger Master Cabin in the rear of the boat with a second adjoining ensuite of a very generous size. Another double berth can be set up with the raising of the interior dining table after inserting a mattress. A single berth can also be set up in the lounge if needed. Showering is as good as at home with plenty of hot water and an excellent sump system to deal with grey water. Blackwater management is through the fabulous (new) American Raritan EletroScan maceration system allowing for a completely sterile discharge overboard. Excellent ventilation is available throughout the yacht. All interior surfaces are in teak joinery and veneer. Furnishings are in Alcantara Royal Blue and look as good as they did when the boat was launched – why - curtains and inside hatch covers have kept the light when not in use. Floorboards are in raw teak on balsa boards and elegant headlining exists in all parts of the boat. The galley is a cook’s dream. 4 burner gas Inox stove and oven with rotisserie. Double sinks set in a stainless-steel galley top make for easy to maintain clean surfaces.

For entertaining, the cockpit is perfect with a hydraulically deployed cockpit table that rises from the floor. No easier way to store the table! It can accommodate 6-8 people. The BBQ is easily deployed on the starboard rear pushpit. In boom lighting and deck lights for evening entertaining makes for a sophisticated superyacht style. A dodger can be deployed from a dedicated dodger garage to cut wind disturbance to guests while sailing or entertaining. Awnings can be attached quickly to form a tent off the boom. On more lengthy stays, poles attach to the boom horizontally to support the awnings.

Cockpit accessed Lazarettes provide plenty of storage. The sail locker accommodates fenders and the gennaker. There is a mainsail cover that is stored within the boom and is easy to deploy.

Regular repair and maintenance that has kept the boat looking as good as new. The teak decks need replacing as the only maintenance required – this can be done prior to sale or at the new owner’s discretion.

There is no good reason to sell this boat other than the owner has a new slightly bigger but similar concept performance cruising boat on its way! The owner hopes to find a good home for this yacht and will assist in any information needed to run the boat. The current boat captain lives in Sydney and knows the boat thoroughly. He would be very happy to assist in transition and ongoing support/maintenance if needed by the new owner.
