World ARC 2017-18 in Indonesia

World ARC 2017-18 in Indonesia World Cruising Club
After completing the leg from Australia to Indonesia, the World ARC fleet have been enjoying a relaxing stopover here in Lombok. During the stopover participants greatly enjoyed exploring the island; in addition to the superb snorkeling found here on Gili Gede and nearby Gili Layar many crews have been traveling inland, experiencing local culture and visiting some of the scenic highlights of this beautiful island on the organised “Lombok at a Glance Tour” organised by World Cruising Club and, for the more adventurous, independently.

The island has so much to offer from the volcano of Mount Rinjani to the surf beaches of Kuta Lombok. Everyone loved exploring the island, and taking the opportunity to relax in the tranquil setting of Gili Gede.

Friday evening was Prize Giving time, hosted at Secret Island Resort, the temporary base for the rally whilst in Gili Gede. A tasty buffet of local Indonesian cuisine was enjoyed in pretty tropical surrounds where prizes were awarded to Take Off for the first place, followed by Arabela and Sandvita at the third place

Saturday afternoon Skippers attended a Skippers Briefing in preparation for the upcoming leg to the Australian territories of Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Islands, the good news is there looks to be fine trade wind conditions and pleasant sailing as the fleet enter the Indian Ocean.

This morning under beautiful blue skies and light south easterly winds World ARC got underway on Leg 10. The 1175 NM route across the north east Indian Ocean will take in a 48 hour stopover at Christmas Island before finally arriving in Cocos Keeling Islands.

Start line operations were performed aboard the yacht Basilea from Marina del Ray, World ARC’s host during our stopover in Lombok, the first on the line was Aurora followed by Take Off and Arabela.

Next stop Christmas Island!

You can follow the fleet here.
