Red Dragon II begins production

Red Dragon has begun production at the Alloy Yachts facility in Auckland Alloy Yachts
The 52m (170ft) sloop Red Dragon II commenced construction at Alloy Yachts Auckland New Zealand in March 2006.

Contracted by an International Yachtsman, Red Dragon II is the fourth yacht over 50m built by Alloy Yachts. She has a beam of 10.2m (33.5ft), draws 4.9m (16.1ft) and a displacement of 354 tonnes.

She will be built to Lloyds Classification and will comply with the Large Commercial Yacht Code LY2.

The design from Dubois Naval Architects is for a high performance aluminium sloop which represents a world luxury cruising yacht with the ability to stay operational for long periods at sea without outside assistance.

The Wilmotte & Associes designed interior has a large saloon with formal dining area for up to 10 guests. The style includes a light clean timber interior.

The topsides will be anthracite grey with a silver superstructure.

Guest accommodation provides for an owner’s suite and 3 guest suites. Also included is a separate gymnasium with Pullman berth and en-suite.
Forward, the crew layout has 5 cabins all with en-suites for up to ten crew.

The comprehensive flybridge above is accessed from the cockpit.
Red Dragon II will be fitted with a 62.5m (205ft) carbon fibre mast with a fully battened in-boom furling mainsail. Sails will be handled by 11captive and 6 vertical winches. The entire winch package is to be designed and built by Alloy Yachts.

Her main engine is a C32 1400hp caterpillar and she will be fitted with two 90kW Northern Lights generators. Two water makers will each supply up to 16000 litres per day. Bow and stern thrusters will assist maneuvering in confined space. Her range is approx. 5900nm at 10 knots.

Entertainment includes two 50 inch LCD TV screens and ten 20 inch screens. There is a central sound system and also a DVD electronic library. The music system is located in 6 zones; each having a hand held LCD programmable touch screen.

The Alloy Yachts SeaTouch system will be installed with 6 touch screen monitors throughout the yacht to indicate system and alarm status. The CCTV operates with four cameras located throughout the yacht.

Red Dragon II will be flagged in the Cayman Islands and is scheduled for delivery in May 2008.
