Back in 1989, when Roger Wilson secured exclusive New Zealand distribution for Bavaria Yachts, the Bavaria brand was a rising star, but now its the largest yacht builder in Germany as well as being the most popular production yacht in the New Zealand market.

Roger Wilson explained last week 'Bavaria Yachtbau, now world leaders in production yacht construction is the most automated production yacht builder in the world and the second largest volume producer world-wide. Our clients see the excellent value that Bavaria delivers. They have the ability to delive finely tuned products for particular market segments. We know the new Vision series of Deck Saloon models which will be particularly popular in this market.

They have particular appeal for entertaining, with plenty of windows and excellent vison below decks. (hence the name), yet they have excellent hull shapes and are delivering exclellent passage performance.'

The Vision Series comprises of three yachts. The Vision 40 and Vision 44 will be available in July 2006, ex factory with the Vision 50 coming off the production line in the European autumn.

With typical German engineering a number of criteria had to be met to produce the right product.

A high ballast to displacement ratio, in excess of 35% to cope with the higher centre of gravity of a deck saloon. Lead Keels are also standard on all Vision range yachts.

A new hull shape to offer fast cruising speed and additional space onboard and more sail area due to the increased stability. A higher specification to suit the market for this type of yacht.

The stunning new interiors introduced by Bavaria Yachts with their new Cruiser Series in 2004/2005 were an instant success worldwide. These light and airy interiors have been taken a step further with the Vision series offering a sensation of space when down below.

Bavaria Yachtbau have recently invested in new facilities in furniture building and wood finishing to assure high craftsmanship and increased product quality for the Cruiser and Vision series of yachts.

Some of the standard features for the new Vision Series.

A spacious galley with large top opening and front opening refrigerators. High quality shades on all hatches and windows including the two metre side windows. Solar powered stainless steel vents to maintain air circulation.

Lead keels with over 35% ballast/displacement ratio

Spinnaker winches. Halyards and control lines run under the deck to clutches and winches. Twin wheel steering on all boats

How do they do it?

Bavaria’s production has been increasing at a compound rate of 15% per annum. This year Bavaria will manufacture 4,000 boats between 27 and 50 feet at their Giebelstadt factory in Southern Germany, of which 3,300 will be sailing yachts.

The average rate that boats come off the production line is 18 per day or 85 per week. Bavaria is recognised worldwide as setting the benchmark for production labour efficiency, up to four times greater than the majority of yacht manufacturers.
