Donna Lange leaves Auckland for Whangarei

Donna Lange leaves Milford for Whangarei with Dion Rogers crewing for the delivery voyage Jane Pares - IMB
Jane Pares, of International Marine Brokers, reports on solo circumnavigator Donna Lange's departure from Auckland, and her future plans:
Here's the latest photo of Donna as she left Milford on Tuesday morning. She sailed out into horrible weather - the hors d'hoeuves before the Southern Ocean!
Steve McCabe came to finish off some work on the rig before she slipped the mooring lines and headed out into the Gulf for a very wild ride up to Whangarei. Fortunately she had a friend, Dion Rogers, with her because once out in the Gulf the full force of the stormy conditions hit them, and 60 knot gusts across the deck doesn't make for a smooth ride!
Apparently Inspired Insanity fell happily back into sailing mode and took it all in her stride. Donna and Dion found it pretty cold out there - a good introduction to the type of conditions she'll encounter en route to Cape Horn.
They arrived up in the Town Basin at Whangarei for breakfast on Wednesday morning. Donna will now stay in Whangarei to finish off quite a few little tasks to get the boat ready for the demanding passage from NZ to Cape Horn.
She won't be stopping until she arrives back at Rhode Island on the NE coast of the US - more than five months sailing from here.
Donna plans to leave mid to late November from the Bay of Islands.
