Sydney 38 One Design celebrates half century!

Orders for Australia's most successful offshore racing design, the Sydney 38 One Design has passed 50, with a flood of confirmations in recent days.

Darren Williams from Sydney Yachts announced on Friday that thirty-five Sydney 38's One Designs have now been sold into the Australian market.

In the eighteen months since it hit the Australian sailing scene, the Sydney 38 One Design has changed the face of regatta and offshore racing.

With boats being launched every few weeks, the One Design fleet has been growing at a startling rate.

The tenth Pittwater Sydney 38, Royal Prince Alfred's director Rick Welsh's still unnamed boat is due to be launched in another few weeks along with Dennis O'Neil's Pitch Black.

The '38's have proven easy to get on pace and 'just out of the box' wins have been common. Over the last three regattas there have been eight different boats filling the nine podium places amongst the One Design fleet.

In the upcoming JP Morgan (previously Ord Minnett) regatta some of the recently launched 38's will be regatta sailing for the first time.

These include Kenny and Justin Lambeth's London Tavern and Nigel Holman's Cuckoo's Nest, backing up after the Gosford to Lord Howe race.

Both of these boats have been performing well and could give the current class leaders some strong competition.
