Earthrace, world's fastest and coolest boat coming to NSW south coast

Earthrace, the fastest, greenest and coolest powerboat in the world, will arrive in towns along the NSW south coast over the next week as part of its global tour to promote environmental sustainability.

Financial advisers for Australia's largest renewable energy investment, JB Global, is bringing Earthrace to Australia to highlight the economic and environmental benefits of investing in renewable energy.

In June 2008, Earthrace set a new world record for a powerboat to circle the globe - smashing the old record by more than two weeks. What made the achievement even more remarkable was that the boat was powered entirely by 100% renewable biodiesel fuel. The boat can also be powered by waste products such as animal and human fat.

'Earthrace is a brilliant example of how sustainable and environmentally-friendly ideas can out-perform conventional practice,' said JB Global CEO Justin Beeton.

'Renewable energy is clearly the way of the future and increasingly, we're seeing the community and investors realise that investing in renewable energy isn't just good for the environment, it pays off financially too.'

Mr Beeton said he'd like to invite the local community down to see Earthrace, tour the boat and meet the crew.

'Everyone's invited down. The public open days are an important way for people to learn about renewable energy, carbon footprints and alternative fuels,' he said.

'They are also a chance for people to check out the coolest boat in the world, and to chat with the crew about their adventures, some of them amazing, and some absolutely terrifying.'

As well as visiting 40 countries and hosting over 150,000 people, Earthrace has been through over a dozen storms, has bullet holes from Columbians pirates, scars from logs off Borneo, and her crew were detained under armed guard in Guatemala.

Earthrace is spending six weeks in Australia, taking in more than 20 locations from 1770 in Central Queensland to Melbourne in Victoria.
