There’s plenty of events planned for Marsden Cove this summer SW
If you were inclined to ask what’s on the Marsden Cove agenda for this summer it would almost be better to ask what’s not on the agenda, because it would be a very small list.
Marsden Cove is fast establishing its reputation as a coastal tourist and destination of some significance through events that have the potential to draw large numbers of visitors. This summer started with the inaugural Northland Seafood Festival on September 19. Next up is the Northland Boat Show on the weekend of November 7th and 8th.
Prior to Christmas, Marsden Cove plans to open Stage Two of its residential development which will be accessed by the biggest non commercial lock in the Southern Hemisphere. The lock will accommodate boats that fit within its 25m x 10m dimensions A special opening event will be staged with a high level of community participation. Ideas being explored include an attempt to stage a world record for the number of kayaks and dinghies assembled before passing through the lock.
Post Christmas there is the annual Carters Beach and Boat Fishing competition followed by 'Thunder on the Cove'; the NZ offshore power boat race which is scheduled for April 24, 2010.
Marsden Cove’s retail centre which opened in December 2008 has been enjoying steady trade. It houses a café / bar, liquor off-license, grocery store, hair dresser / beautician, yacht broker, fishing tackle and dive refill facility and overlooks Northland’s busiest boat ramp.
Since the establishment of Marsden Cove’s NZ Customs Port of entry, a large number of international cruising boats have taken advantage of the facility. Around 70 international yachts have already advised their arrival in the coming month.
On the land around the marina a number of new homes have been completed including the recently opened Cranston Display Home. In Stage Two, NZ’s first eco-friendly neighborhood is to be created under the Right House banner, with up to eight homes being built.
There are two very attractive higher density projects planned for commencement on land overlooking the marina. Marketing is soon to begin for the multi level Marina Views apartments offering luxurious living in a choice two or three bedroom layouts and secure underground parking.
On the eastern side of the marina is a cove which will accommodate semi detached water front villas which are being marketed as Marina Cove. The first of these villas is planned for construction as a display home. If you are interested to see how all of these development components come together you need to sight model at the sales office adjacent to Watermark café. Try the coffee while you’re there, you’ll be impressed.
