World Cruising Destinations - new book by Jimmy Cornell

About Jimmy Cornell:
Romanian born Jimmy Cornell took up sailing while working as a reporter for the BBC World Service in London. In 1974 he fitted out himself a 36 foot fibre-glass Trintella III, van de Stadt design.

In 1975 he left England with British wife Gwenda and their two children (Doina 7 and Ivan 5) on a world voyage lasting 6 years, which took them to some 70 countries and totalled 68,000 miles. During the voyage Jimmy Cornell sent back regular radio reports to the BBC World Service.

In 1986 he launched and organised the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean. As a result of the success of the first ARC he founded the World Cruising Club, which specialises in international sailing events.

Now in its 21st year, the ARC is the largest trans-ocean event in the world and one of the most successful sailing events in history. Jimmy is credited with being the founder of the cruising rally concept and, between 1991 and 2000, organized five round the world rallies.

Since then he has cruised the world extensively, sailed all oceans, and clocked up more than 200,000 nautical miles. As well as writing the world recognised reference book World Cruising Routes, now in its sixth edition, he also founded Noonsite, a well known reference website for long range cruisers. He is the author of thirteen books, including his memoir A Passion for the Sea, published in 2008 (also available from Boat Books).
