Product of the Week- The Dorcap

by Sail-World Cruising on 4 Oct 2011
Dorcap - hints of a dorade SW
The wind scoop or wind vent has always been a boon on a yacht, but often a hassle to erect and dismantle. Now along comes the innovative Dorcap whose superior design resembles the dorade.

The dorcap is fastened over the open hatch, maximizing the ventilation below deck, and can be reefed down for squalls, rain and changing weather.

It is self standing as it does not require a halyard to stand up, and even if the rain is horizontal, it prevents the water from coming in, while allowing the air to enter the open hatch.

It mounts over standard size hatches and is available in three sizes.

Features:

The Dorcap
Simultaneously transforms your hatches into air vents and dorade boxes:
Doubles the airflow through the hatch
Maintains airflow in case of rain
Is easy to fold and to store
Is easy and quick to mount and dismount
Avoids ceaseless trips to open or close hatches
Made with 'sea-worthy' materials

The Dorcap has two settings: «maximum airflow» and «rain risk». The «maximum airflow» position significantly increases air pressure. It cannot be compared to other flexible systems such as the 'wind scoop'. Its ideal design, rigid system, absence of lateral leakage, provide a «compression acceleration» air stream which penetrates to the interior of your vessel. This doubles the airflow of an open hatch.

Important: To obtain maximum effect, you should leave a hatch or a door open on the other end of the cabin. You need to ensure that air can escape, creating optimal airflow inside the boat!

IMPORTANT: the use of the Dorcap is limited by the risk of sea flooding the bridge. It must therefore only be used in port, at anchorage, or on very calm seas when the hatches in general can be legitimately opened without any boat flooding risks.

The 'rain risk' position enables airflow identical to that of an open hatch without the inconvenience of rain entering the ship.
The Dorcap can be used for all types of hatch openings: towards the bow, rearwards or crosswise. Only the installation method between the deck and the hatch changes.
