driPhone Windsurfing NZ National Slalom competition in Dunedin

by Bruce Spedding on 13 Feb 2012

The driPhone Windsurfing NZ National Slalom competition was held on Dunedin Harbour. The National Slalom event again delivered strong winds and high speed action (and carnage) with 26 rounds counted (117 races) over four days with one round cancelled made for a great event.

Plenty of close sailing in high winds in the first three days. Gear breakage and injury were probably the most significant factors in determining the Open men result with very close finishes, often by a couple of metres, and even one dead heat. This year featured several overseas sailors with Australians taking first and third on the open.

Roll on next year, a great social and competitive event will be bigger and better! Our thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and organisers.

Videos of the event are available - see below
