Over the weekend of Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October, Peterhead Sailing Club hosted a Scottish Topper training day and Regatta which was very successful in spite of a poor weather forecast, and a resulting drop in numbers expected at the traveller series.

Participants came from all over Scotland to undertake training on Saturday with coach Alistair Young of Aberdeen and, given the prevailing conditions, Alistair took the opportunity to cover some essentials of how to cope with strong winds and gusty conditions which the young sailors put into practice on the water in the afternoon.

On Sunday, the Sailing Club ran a one day Regatta which saw the competitors coping with F5 winds with gusts of much more on occasions, conditions which would normally prevent many dinghy sailors from attempting to sail.

However, many of the youngsters concerned were very experienced and rose to the challenge. Between the numerous capsizes, there were some screaming reaches, and exciting racing. The sailors fully enjoyed their last, and windiest, traveller of the year.

Overall Results:

1st Lorenzo Chiavarini (Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club)
2nd Angus Gray-Stephens (Tarbert Loch Fyne Yacht Club)
3rd Emma Palmer (Royal Forth Yacht Club)
4th Jack Evan (Chanonry Sailing Club)
