It was a busy day at Dalgety Sailing Club for Bart's Bash, with just over thirty sailors taking part, aging from 4 to 74ish.
There were cakes, buns, biscuits and juice for anyone with a donation and some decent sailing too, with warm weather and a nice 10 to 12 knots. The high spring tides made for some difficult currents but with the tide full in by the end of the day it wasn't too far to pull the boats out.
PRO Ian Renilson made sure everyone was briefed and knew what to do as there were plenty of inexperienced racers joining in the fun.
It wasn't the easiest of start lines with a cross current and a short line but the 17 boats got away first time and it was the not so inexperienced RS300 of Ian Baillie who quickly took the lead and was never really challenged after that on a course and wind strength that suited the boat very well.
Gavin and Findlay McKinnon and Gavin and Ben Homer had a tight race in their RS200s until Gavin Homer decided it was bath time for Ben down the final reach, leaving the McKinnons in 2nd place.
The Lasers were also having a close battle and Norman Burns managed to keep ahead of Glenn Halstead to finish 3rd and 4th behind the RSs.
Mention should also go to Cheryl Taylor, who sailed an Opi with her daughter Sophie, one of the youngest sailors and found it a bit cramped. John Hilton, the most senior sailor in the race, winning a tacking duel up the last beat. Richard Haydock, for borrowing Ian Renilson's Bahia and giving it a very good wash. And Minnie Macleod, who posted some brilliant blog videos about Bart's Bash, and sailed with her Dad but broke their rudder just before the start. Well there is always next year.
