The Seabin project is growing rapidly!

Seabin is a floating rubbish collection device designed to reduce, and ultimately eliminate pollution in our waterways. A simple concept coupled with an incredibly innovative design has delivered an outcome that will see every Seabin installed remove up to 1.5 tons of waste from our waterways every year. Check out the backstory on Seabin here.

After launching in Australia six months ago, the Seabin story has gone from strength to strength. In May and June alone, 210 Seabins were installed in waterways around the world with over 50 marinas in Europe alone investing in Seabin smart technology. The culture of solutions for waterways is predominantly positive with some regions still maintaining a "Not my mess, not my problem" culture.

These recent Seabin installations have taken the total number of functioning Seabins worldwide to a staggering 232. What does this mean? 646 kg of rubbish is being extracted from the world's waterways every single day, with nearly 40 tonnes of marine litter/rubbish was collected in May and June alone.

Pete Ceglinski, CEO and Co-Founder of Seabin Group still remains positive "Not everybody is ready to invest in Seabin technology just yet and really, it's not a problem as we have many more marinas investing in Seabins because they see a value add for their marina business that benefits from maintaining a clean water environment for their clients"

There are now six trial Seabins in the ports of Dubai with a further 28 units to be installed on the impressive waterfront upon completion of the trial. Seven Seabins are also currently on trial in Paris for preparation of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. In a similar format to Dubai, if the trial proves successful, the City of Paris will be looking to use Seabin technology to help maintain their waterways on a broad scale.

A singular Seabin unit being trialled in an undisclosed Australian city (city wished to remain anonymous) for the next 4 weeks. Upon completion of a successful trial, the Seabin technology is to be considered as an addition to the already impressive portfolio of solutions for floating waste within the cities waterways jurisdiction.

With a newly intensified focus on Australian waterways, it is projected that there will be between 50 and 60 Seabins in Aussie waters by December. Seabin CEO and Co-Founder, Pete Ceglinksi emphasised the importance of hitting the ground running in his home country.

"We're an Australian company, originally. While our early progress has been in the ports and marinas of Europe, our next objective is to clean up the water that we grew up enjoying. Not only are we planning on vast Seabin installations, but Australia is now our headquarters for global operations and research and development, so our team is projected to expand rapidly here on home shores" Pete explained.

The Seabin Foundation, Seabin Groups non-profit entity is now operable and Seabin Group will be searching for a Seabin Foundation CEO upon completion of a fundraising round by Seabin Group in an aim to scale up its operations in Australia this year.

Meanwhile, this month, Seabin Services Pty Ltd was launched to the world, giving Seabin operators an official servicing and support agency to compliment their waste removal efforts.

Seabin Group aim to have Seabins landed in Australia by late October this year.

Seabin Services holds Queensland distribution rights and will be working with industrial partner Poralu Marine to assist with Seabin sales across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

"Our progress over the last six months has been astonishing. It is a testament to the willingness of communities around the world to fight for cleaner oceans. But there's still so much work to be done. We need to continue to educate people about the harmful nature of waste in our waterways. Our dream from the very beginning has been that we could live in a world where Seabins were not necessary and that hasn't changed.

Recent Award Wins:

  • Seabin Group has won the prestigious Good Design Awards this year in the social impact category using the whole solution strategy. Seabin Group also supplied Seabin microplastics to GDA for the construction of the trophies.
  • Seabin Group also won the European Design Awards in the social impact category using the whole solution strategy that consists of solving ocean plastics using Education, Science, technology, Research and community events.
