- Change in start point to allow for increased participation
Oyster Yachts, a leading global manufacturer of luxury blue water sailing yachts, proudly announces the 2021-2024 OWR will begin and end in the Mediterranean at Oyster's Palma Service Centre. The Oyster World Rally is a hallmark of the Oyster brand, and by moving the starting point to the Mediterranean the Company hopes that more members of the Oyster family can take part than ever before.
Many Oyster owners are based in and around the European region, and this change in route is designed to make the OWR more accessible for a wider range of participants who might only choose to participate in the Mediterranean leg of the journey. The driving concept behind the Rally is a shared sense of community and adventure, with this adjustment aiming to bring more members of the Oyster family together.
The current OWR, which began in January 2017 and is scheduled to end in April 2019 has seen 29 Oyster yachts traverse across the globe's oceans as part of a four-stage, 27,000-mile circumnavigation. Oyster owners can join the Rally selectively, only taking part in particular stages, which has helped to inform the Company's decision to launch and end the 2021 OWR in Palma.
The 2021 edition will represent the third OWR since first launching in 2013, with much of the route remaining the same as the current 2017-2019 schedule allowing participants to visit such iconic locations as Tahiti, Vanuatu, Ascension Island and Antigua over the course of the three-year journey, set to finish in 2024.
There are also plans for a smaller Oyster rendezvous to be held in the south of France during the summer of 2019, further details of which will be released in due course.
CEO Richard Hadida stated: "The Oyster World Rally exemplifies how an investment in an Oyster means more than just owning a yacht – it means joining the Oyster family, providing unique opportunities for extraordinary experiences and adventures. The Rally has a remarkable legacy and it was important for us to make the event as accessible as possible, which was the driving factor behind this route change. Beginning and ending in Palma won't compromise on any of the amazing locations which feature as part of the voyage, and we are proud to help Oyster owners create lasting memories on the adventure of a lifetime."
