John Maddox, past RRC for Australia sent an email reminding everyone that Elise Curry in Coffs Harbour and Howard Keegan in Newcastle do a great job assisting members coming into New South Wales, Australia from the Pacific.
It seems it is becoming a traditional meeting, the annual Get Together in Gran Canaria, where cruisers are able to share the company of many OCC members before they cross the Atlantic. In total, 14 sailing vessels and their crews celebrated being together at Port Officer Agustin Martin's home in Pasito Blanco, Gran Canaria. Most of them did not know each other before, so it was a good chance to make contact with other members, to share their experiences, destinations and talk about future sailings. "Thank you," from Sonja and Agustin, "for coming and making this event a friendly and familiar get together."
Jenny Crickmore-Thompson reports from South Africa that the boats crossing the Indian Ocean have come in at such intervals that we have had two Richards Bay welcome parties. The 2 events, totaling 53 participants, have been very successful, have raised the profile of the OCC to international circumnavigators, and Tata Hlalatu has done a sterling job. As Tata says, "This bodes well for the future of this area event. Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the OCC BBQ yesterday, it was awesome. 25 people attended at the ZYC. Monday we will be doing a Township Tour, pick up at Zululand Yacht Club @08h30 then proceeding to Tuzi Gazi Waterfront for 2nd pick up." Jenny adds that at present, some 48 people have signed up for a Capetown meet.
