The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust is delighted to announce Marlow Ropes as its latest corporate supporter and sustainability partner.

The British high performance rope-maker has generously donated ropes and rigging gear for the pioneering cetacean research vessel, Silurian - operated by the Trust. The Silurian, as recently featured in BBC's Blue Planet Live, travels thousands of miles off the west coast of Scotland every year to conduct groundbreaking research on whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks.

The vessels research findings are of global importance and contribute to the conservation and protection of UK cetaceans.

HWDT's Boat Manager and Skipper, Emma Burgess said: "We are delighted to announced Marlow Ropes as a corporate supporter. This is a valuable contribution to our ongoing maintenance, ensuring the highest levels of safety onboard Silurian. It ultimately helps us achieve our survey and research objectives to further our understanding and conservation of Scottish whales, dolphins and porpoises."

Marlow's reputation in the leisure marine and yachting industry is world renowned and the British manufacturer is providing tough, durable and easy handling lines including the main, mizzen and Yankee halyards, sheets and kickers to assist with the next phase of Silurian's research objectives.

This generous donation comes on the back of a winter of maintenance work onboard Silurian, including the full renewal of the standing rigging, that has ensured that she is in excellent condition for the 2019 season.

Marlow's Leisure Marine Director Paul Honess said: "Marlow is delighted to create this new sustainable partnership to support the Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust and its crucial marine conservation work. As a leading brand within the sailing industry, sustainability is a key part of our ethos. This year we are delighted to be working with a number of environmentally conscious sailors and organisations.

"Our quality standards, manufacturing and waste management systems are in line with our environmental policy that reinforces our recycle, reuse and repurpose education mission."
