Sustainable Travel to Russia

Currently in Hampshire, England, my fellow student Tereza and I are helping to build a Martinicus 16ft wooden double-ended clinker sailboat.

In July, we will be launching the boat onto the Mainz river (Germany) and sailing/rowing the boat from the North Sea to the Black Sea. We will be travelling over 3000km of inland waterways, predominately the Danube river, through thirteen different countries. We will enter the Black Sea from The Danube and voyage around the coast to Sochi - our final destination.

The boat is currently at the final stages of the build, the rigging will arrive over the next day or two and then we are all set to go!

Why we are doing the trip

The environment we live in is changing fast. Our journey is a sustainable challenge for Tereza to travel from our school in England, to her home in Russia, with the smallest footprint possible. We believe that there is a better way of getting from one place to another, and we want to showcase that alternative ways of travel can be practical and a great experience, with lots of challenges that you can meet with practical knowledge and skills.

We will be documenting our adventure with an online series produced weekly so that you can follow the adventure as we go, as well as publications in different magazines and video platforms.

How you could help us

We are in search of sponsorships! If you sponsor us we will advertise your product/brand over 13 different countries weekly on YouTube and various wooden boat magazines and video sharing platforms that we already have a connection with. If you want to give a small amount of money you can do so by clicking the donate button on our blog linked below. You can help us on this journey through a number of ways. And we appreciate anything that will help us get this journey going!

We hope that you can find some interest in this this journey as it is a call for action against climate change. We are going to travel home from school in the most sustainable way possible.
