RYA Youth Squad Sailors come 3rd at Hobie 16 Youth World Championships

Morgan Smith and AJ Luxton take third in the Hobie 16 Youth World Championships © Hobie Worlds

RYA Nacra 15 Youth Squad Sailors Morgan Smith (Hollowell SC), helm of Team Hamel-Smith and AJ Luxton (RLMYC), crew of Team Harris-Luxton, who competed against each other in the Nacra 15 World Championships in Marseille just days before leaving for the States, teamed up to contest the 2019 Hobie 16 Youth World Championships on Captiva Island, Florida.

For their first time sailing together - and Morgan's first time on a Hobie - they were delighted with the results, coming a very respectable third, followed in fourth place by the second GBR Team: Elsa Sweetman and Owen Harper.

Returning to the UK, Morgan and AJ are looking forward to returning to their normal teams in a Nacra 15 but less so the cold water and winter training after getting used to sunnier shores and warmer waters!
