The discovery of Type D Killer Whales took the top three spots of our videos this year. Take a look at our five most popular videos of 2019.

1. First Encounter with Type D Killer Whales

When scientists encountered mystery killer whales off Cape Horn, Chile, people tuned in. This video clip of their first encounter with Type D killer whales was the #1 video of the year.

2. Describing Mystery Killer Whales

Bob Pitman, a researcher from NOAA Fisheries' Southwest Fisheries Science Center in La Jolla, California, was there for the first encounter with Type D killer whales. He describes what sets them apart from other killer whales in our second most popular video of 2019.

3. Amazing underwater footage of Mystery Killer Whales

This astounding video footage from the expedition off Cape Horn, Chile documenting a new type of killer whale also claims the third spot in our top 5 videos! Researchers obtained a tiny bit of tissue/blubber that will allow them to determine if the Type D whales are a new species.
