Oskar and Lisa sailing home aboard Hilma

For Oskar Olausson and Lisa Lindeberg their journey aboard Hilma, their Sun Odyssey 45, is nearly complete! But what an adventure they have had!

Officially, they completed their circumnavigation this past March after crossing their own wake in the warm waters of the Caribbean off the island of St Lucia. But since Oskar and Lisa are from Sweden, they still had a long sail ahead of them to get home. Their route would take them first to the British Virgin Islands. Those of us who attended the 2020 Jeanneau Owner's Rendezvous would have the pleasure of meeting them and hearing a little about their epic adventure.

In May, after being stuck in the USVI for over two months due to Covid-19, they continued on, first to the Bahamas and then to Charleston, South Carolina. From Charleston they would cruise North via the Inter-Coastal Waterway (ICW) to Annapolis, Maryland. The Jeanneau America Team had the privilege of hosting Hilma and crew at Horn Porint Marina, the docks just outside our office. We would have liked them to stay longer but they still had a long ways to go.

From Annapolis they would go to New York City, where they would anchor at the foot of Lady Liberty. Then Block Island and Newport, Rhode Island, then Maine. They would continue to head North before turning East towards home.

They stopped in Greenland where Lisa says, "Greenland is so cool! Must be one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but cold! A lot of people told us that you need a steel boat or similar to go there, but Hilma made a great job in the ice-climate too!"

And so they continue on and soon they will be home. It will be bitter sweet for sure. They have had an adventure of a lifetime. They've crossed all the major oceans, some more than once. They've met new and exciting people from all over the world. They've learned to be self-sufficient and rely on each other to solve the myriad of problems that are always present when cruising long distances. They've made an assortment of new friends along the way. And perhaps best of all, they've experienced Mother Earth at her best. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us guys, we so enjoyed being able to come along for the ride.

Onwards!

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants.
