For those not aware, our friend, sailing colleague and circumnavigator - Jon Sanders - needs help to sail home to Western Australia.

Jon's friends, fellow sailors and Club Administration at Fremantle Sailing Club have quickly formed a support group and are raising funds via a MyCause Australia page, and a fundraiser at the Club on November 25th.

FSC Commodore Ron Greer said, "We would love to have the support of all West Australians in helping Jon bring his 11th circumnavigation to fruition."

Jon was close to completing his 11th circumnavigation aboard his beloved Perie Banou II, having sailed from the Fremantle Sailing Club in November 2019. As well as dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic problem, the 81-year-old has battled some of the worst weather he has seen in years. Two large storm cells with winds in excess of 120 kilometres an hour, tumultuous seas, and a knockdown saw the boat taking on water, flooding the engine and Jon sustaining injuries. The storm left Jon with an unrepairable engine and no navigation equipment or electronics.

A new engine has been purchased and new B&D electronics are on order. Jon is currently in Bundaberg, Queensland, preparing to sail home to WA; however, he needs funding assistance after exhausting all contingency money due to COVID delays, quarantine and additional supply costs, plus purchase of the new motor.

It is hoped that Jon can complete the final leg of his amazing 11th circumnavigation by early 2021.

If you can help please donate to My Cause Australia - Jon Sanders - The Final Leg Home.

There is a fundraising event to be held on Wednesday, November 25 at Fremantle Sailing Club. Details will be forthcoming soon. To book tickets please contact Fremantle Sailing Club: 089435 8800.

Many of us are working toward this cause. Initial thanks to the kick-off group - Terri McClure, Nick Walker, Ron Greer, Anita Whyte, Stephen Davis, Ian Joel, Darren Heath, Morgan Flower, Donna Watson & thanks to Karen Baldwin CEO - FSC
