The majority shareholder and owner of the Discovery Shipyard has made a significant £2.0 million-pound additional investment in the yacht building business. The funds have been raised to use exclusively on capital expenditures as well as new project development.

Werner Schaebele, who made the £2.0 million injection through his investment vehicle Binti Marine Holdings Ltd, became the sole owner of Discovery Shipyard in December 2019. Werner previously purchased the majority shareholding of the business in 2018 - his considerable investment in the shipyard since has ensured its success and continuance.

John Burnie, the Managing Director of the Discovery Shipyard and of Binti Marine Holdings Ltd said:

"This is a very significant additional investment in the business by our highly supportive owner / shareholder. During 2020 many business like ours have been frustrated by the negative impact the virus pandemic has had on normal operations. So I am delighted that we have been allocated additional funds - this will enable us to progress important capital expenditures as well as to continue development items. Important projects include a newly designed Bluewater 50 Catamaran Mk 3, a redesigned Southerly 42 with lifting keel and there will be improvements made to the existing tooling. This is a very encouraging start to 2021 for the Discovery Shipyard - with strong interest and increased enquiry level in all our models, the employees and clients of the Discovery Shipyard can look forward to the coming year with considerable confidence."

Note: The Discovery Shipyard operates out of its Lymington Headquarters and a 40,000 sq. ft. shipyard in Marchwood on the Western Bank of Southampton Water. The shipyard builds annually 7-10 high quality offshore yachts, with both fixed and lifting keels. Included in the range are 42ft, 48ft and 54ft Southerly Hull Yachts - 55ft 58ft and 68ft Discovery Hull Yachts and a 50ft ocean going Bluewater Catamaran. The business employs 80 people, including 8 apprentices.
