Pains Wessex, in conjunction with YouBoat, is holding a Flares Amnesty Day in Hampshire, UK, on Saturday 1 May.

The May Day Flares Amnesty, from 8.30am-2.30pm, will take place at YouBoat's new shop at Premier Marinas Ltd, Building 10, Bridge Rd, Swanwick, Southampton SO31 1ZH.

Pains Wessex Marketing Director, Chris Feibusch, says, "The May Day Flares Amnesty applies to all brands of pyro and leisure users can purchase new Pains Wessex flares at special prices to replace them at YouBoat Chandlery.

"Flares remain the most globally recognised method of alerting to a distress situation and the most effective form of visual location marking in search and rescue operations.

"We will ensure the Time-Expired Pyrotechnics (TEP) are safely disposed of in accordance with the regulations, as well as raising much-needed money for a range of charities."

Each participant is invited to make a cash donation, which will be split between the Ellen MacArthur Trust, Jubilee Sailing Trust, Wetwheels Foundation and Sail2Help. This can be done via a special JustGiving page.

Pains Wessex plans to arrange similar Flares Amnesty Days at Lymington, Gosport and an event to coincide with Southampton Boat Show. Dates and times are to be confirmed.

The amnesty is for non-commercial participants and there will be a one-pack limit or 10 individual units of expired flares per household.

Wescom Signal and Rescue, which is headquartered in Havant, Hampshire, manufactures the Pains Wessex, Comet, Aurora and Oroquieta brands and is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of SOLAS, MED and USCG-approved pyrotechnic marine distress signals to the commercial and leisure marine markets. As a manufacturer of lifesaving products, Wescom is committed to safety, quality, and reliability.
