Nova Luxe is pleased to announce our first sailing model out of Cape Town, South Africa has arrived and is available for sea trial in the United States. This 54' carbon re-enforced sailing yacht was completed in December of 2020 in South Africa and uses a Torqeedo Deep Blue propulsion system. The builder already had two sisterships in the US and Caribbean with electric propulsion systems and was one of the first to use the Ocean Volt system in 2017. Together Nova Luxe and Ocean Renegade share an energy independent building facility in Cape Town and a shared vision for the future of boat building.

If the vision could be summed up in one word it would be: Independence. For the R5, this means the ability to sail in very light winds allowing her to reach Pacific Islands outside the normal trade routes. She can do this because of her epoxy and carbon structure barely tilting the scales at 24,912lbs. Not just epoxy glass built, but fully baked (at 60 degrees Celsius for 20 hours) a step which strengthens our hulls beyond normal curing. Impressive for a 54' catamaran and as light or lighter than Gunboat and HH equivalents. Her speed is coupled with accommodations for a seafaring family to become completely untethered from land.

The Ocean Renegade R5 was delivered on its own hull from Cape Town SA to Tampa FL and is in the care of our broker partner Tampa Yacht Sales. The trip took about a month even with light airs in the Caribbean for the final leg of the trip. She is equipped with two 25kw pod drives and a single 40kwh BMW i3 battery. Auxiliary power is provided by the reliable Fischer Panda AC generator and all warranties are backed by the builder.

She is the flagship of the Ocean Renegade line and sits between her 44' and 64' (R4, R6) sister ships and a step sister to the NLS 40 model. All bred for speed, all precision CNC cut and all with top of the line electric propulsion systems! Unable to bring the R5 to Annapolis sail show, Marc will be walking the docks and meeting with clients during the show.

Models from our line of hybrid power catamarans will make it to US shores but as with everything worth doing, it takes time. Interest from day charter companies has expedited the development of a power version with full solar array for the NLS40. Significantly smaller and lighter then the Elight 44, it will be the most efficient electric yacht ever built. How so, you ask? A 48v solar array will feed a 48v battery bank and power 48v motors. The system will be as close to lossless as theoretically possible and the hull is wave piercing full displacement.

As our product offerings increase, our scope of expertise remains the same, electric done right, Nova Luxe Yachts!
