A bevy of former America's Cup sailors will be crewed by their sons at the Northland Cherub titles at Algies Bay at the end of January.

The second running of the Northland Cherub Championship will take place on Auckland Anniversary weekend Saturday and Sunday.

Last year saw 11 entries take the start line for the first course race of this regatta this year the numbers should easily double that with new boats and imported boats from Australia joining the fleet.

The format for these events is not your regular ten race format but has a variety of different races including distance races and Handicap formats.

This contest sees the introduction of a Trophy for the first pre-1985 boat to encourage some of the older boats to compete.

There are plenty of new boats and competitive boats built after this date which should see some tight racing at the front of the fleet with Dean Barker returning to defend his trophy. Mike Sanderson back with his new Leech boat trying to knock him off and last years third place getter Tim Roper back with a new boat trying to climb to the front.

There will be good racing right through the fleet and if Mother nature plays ball its a great spectacle with a grandstand view straight in front of the club.
