ARC Europe: Refuelling day and prizegiving in Bermuda

by World Cruising Club 17 May 2022 08:17 UTC

It has been a busy day here in Bermuda with duty free fuelling followed by Prizegiving for leg 1 with all ARC Europe crews in St. Georges assembled at The Wharf Restaurant to enjoy an evening of celebrations marking the end of the first stage of their Atlantic crossing.

The evening began with Gosling's Rum director Andrew Holmes welcoming participants and guiding them through rum story of their historical production on Bermuda. Two hundred years later, the Gosling's brand lives on and is known for its Black Seal Rum, the main ingredient in the famed Dark 'n Stormy drink (Black Seal, ginger beer and lime), and popular now with sailors all over the world.

Participants got the chance to taste the rare and expensive Family Reserve 20-year aged rum that is only for special occasions and celebrations. And, of course, everyone got the opportunity to purchase duty-free rum, which will be available to collect after check-out ahead of Wednesday's departure for Horta.

The three net controllers' volunteers have been recognised with a bottle of Amber rum each, and the shortest yacht on the fleet Vorona were first on corrected time on Cruising division, followed by Mercan and the Swedish flag yacht Pleasure. On the Multihulls division with a corrected time of 4days 20hours 56minutes and 10seconds, the Neel 47 Minimole was the winner.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, skippers will attend briefing for the leg ahead at the St George's Dinghy and Sports Club and will be clearing out of Bermuda with Customs and Immigration.
