PBITPro J/24 US National Championship at Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club - Day 1

by Tonja Sanchez-Holmes 27 May 2022 20:19 UTC 23-28 May 2022

Twenty-four J/24 teams are contending for the PBITPro J/24 US National Championship title hosted by Dallas Corinthian Yacht Club in Oak Point, Texas.

Under shifty conditions and winds ranging from 7-18 knots, four races were completed on the opening day. The conditions were tricky enough to prevent a standout team at the end of the day with Nobuyuki Imai (Siesta), Travis Odenbach (Bogus), Keith Whittemore (Furio), and William Fastiggi (Fawn Liebowitz) each earning a bullet.

There is currently a 13-point THREE-way tie for first place with Imai beating out Odenbach and Whittemore for the tiebreaker. Not far behind in fourth place is Mike Marshall (American Garage) with 15 points and Paul Foerster (Grand Slam II) in fifth place with 20 points.

A look at the overall scores and there is clearly a battle all the way across the competitors with multiple ties. Christopher Holmes (Bad Moon) wins the tiebreaker with Jasper Van Vliet for 11th place, Richardo Martinez (Orion) wins the tiebreaker for 14th place with Elisabeth Hudson (Two Shots) and her all-women team, and Barry Bailey (Yikes) wins the tiebreaker for 16th place with Brian Metz (Illegal Smile).

Wind conditions for Day 2 of the event contain a dismal forecast with AP going up until 1300 hours in hopes the wind would fill in for afternoon racing. If no racing is held, four races are expected on Day 3 with winds predicted to be solid and breezy.

Racing continues through Saturday.
