Reverso Air: Exceptional performance and high-tech construction

by Sail Reverso 22 Jun 2022 12:22 UTC

The sailing boat of the future is now available in Australia. And it folds into the back of your car!

Folding and nesting dinghies aren't a new concept, but ones designed and built with exceptional performance and high-tech construction are. This is where the Reverso Air enters the picture.

The Reverso Air is "the world's fastest portable small sailboat". The Reverso's unique hull shape (3.35m(11ft LOA) and 1.22m (4ft beam) breaks down into four sections, with the largest weighing only 16.8kg, and the total hull weight of 55kg.

When you're done sailing and ready to stow it, the Reverso's interlocking hull sections fit into a space measuring only 75cm by 91cm by 140cm. Designed and built in the French home of sailing, Brittany, the boats are made from vacuum infused fiberglass with a foam core, and the mast is carbon fibre, with a 7m2 (75sq/ft) Black Membrane Sail, weighing under 3kg (including the mast), allowing this to be an extremely lightweight sailboat. The Reverso Air has a carrying capacity of 160kg, which means you can easily fit a combination of two adults, or one adult and a couple children, or several kids or teens.

Reverso Founder, Antoine Simon, was looking for a way to have a sailboat in his life when he came up with the idea of a light, transportable version. "As an ardent sailor, this is the boat which I wanted as an end-user. It is a dinghy that is efficient, which is sporty but super light, portable, easy to assemble and disassemble," Simon told Sillages-Communication.

The simplicity, ease of use and storage capability are three of the stunning features the Reverso demonstrates. This dinghy can be disassembled into four pieces that will fit in the trunk of a car, it can be assembled and disassembled in 3 minutes and there are minimal ropes and rigs to get you sailing in no time.

"This is a boat that has been designed to last," says Simon. "It can be stored indoors in very good conditions. It's a boat for several generations." The Reverso Air is also a boat that lets you focus on the fun side of owning a boat instead of dealing with all the hassles other owners have to put up with.
