The increasingly successful youth skiffs began their racing at Riva del Garda in the last regatta of the season for both Fraglia Vela Riva and the 29er EuroCup series yesterday.

It was a decidedly autumnal day, the first of four scheduled for the final leg of the 29er Eurocup, an event that has now become a regular fixture for the high speed, high drama youth double handed fleet. This also represents the season grand finale for the regattas organised by Fraglia Vela Riva, which has believed in this class from the very beginning and which today also has its own crews among the protagonists.

After the stormy weather on Saturday, on this first day the northerly wind lasted well into the early afternoon, although it dropped inexorably, allowing two races to be started in around 11 knots. The fleet of 150 crews was divided into two fleets, which raced on a single race course, positioned by the staff of the organising club and the Garda Trentino Vela Consortium, coordinated by the FIV Race Committee.

It was Italy and the local Fraglia Vela Riva crew Demurtas-Santi, who with two firsts took the lead in the general classification, followed by two French crews, France 13 with Goron-Clochard (3-1) and France 3 Revil-Devaux (5-2). The first mixed crew, currently in fourth, was Irish team Clementine and Nathan Van Steenberge. Leading the female teams was Sweden's Tea Zeeberg and Comelia Widestam currently sitting in 9th place overall.

Today's start is scheduled for 10:00 am.
