The Pacific adventures continue for World ARC 2023-24

by World Cruising Club 2 Mar 07:01 UTC

Under clear blue skies and a warm breeze, World ARC 2023-24 began Leg 4 of their rally around the world. The next journey, the longest on the World ARC route, will see the fleet of 25 yachts carrying 102 crew between them, cover a distance of just under 3,000 NM from Santa Cruz in the Galapagos to Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. This journey is likely to take around 21 days.

With a steady easterly breeze of 12 knots, the conditions were excellent on the start in Academy Bay with the fleet speeding through the line under full sail. With a busy crew of 8 onboard, it was family boat Blue Sunshine who were hovering nicely by the outer distance mark and then powered up at just the right time to cross the line first. Taking it steady in the middle Sara of Sweden were well placed to cross next however they were overshadowed by the mighty Dufour 52, Salt, who came powering though to take the line second. Close behind them were Enalia, Renegade and Pole Pole who were also speeding along just missing the committee vessel!

As one of the most eagerly anticipated stopovers, all participants have thoroughly enjoyed their two- and a-bit weeks in the Galapagos Islands. Having had the opportunity to visit three different islands and experience many different tours, dive excursions and cruises, these extraordinary islands have certainly lived up to their expectations and for many, exceeded them. Also enjoying many social events, the fleet all agreed they have created a very special and strong community where they are sure to take care of each other and above all have a fabulous time experiencing the Pacific together.

All boats carry a tracking device enabling each one to be followed as they make their way towards the Marquesas. To follow their progress please click here.

Many thanks to the Yellow Shirt team from each boat were transmitted over VHF as the fleet headed out towards the horizon. In return we wish the fleet fair winds for their journey ahead, we will be watching you progress as you travel westward across the Pacific.
