Sailors were treated to a mix of conditions arriving to a windy few days preceeding the 29er EuroCup #5 held in Rungsted, Denmark.

Proving once again that sailing is a sport that keeps competitors on their toes, the Royal Danish Yacht Club hosted the second Scandinavian 29er EuroCup in the exact opposite conditions, racing in minimum 4 knots, testing the sailors in much lighter conditions and glorious sunshine all weekend.

32 teams from five nations lined up on the startline, although only managing one race in very light conditions on Saturday 13th May. Despite the lack of wind, spirits remained high and competitors made the most of the warm hospitality of KDY and Rungsted harbour, enjoying old and new friendships alongside a locally made feast.

Sunday also began with less than 4 knots in the morning, so the sailors enjoyed their time ashore relaxing, practising their ball skills - from hockey to basketball, alongside spending time getting to know each other, building international relationships and making the most of the 29er dinghy park camaraderie.

Fortunately, the wind started to pick up to around 8 knots, enough for two great races, lead by the International Race Officer Peter Lübeck and his fantastic team of volunteers.

The Danish team of Yanne Broers and Gustav Aasholm-Bradley, who took Silver in the recent EuroCup #4 in Sweden, this time took the top step of the Podium, winning overall by 12 points. They are also the current overall leaders of the 2023 29er EuroCup series with a 4th and 6th place in Spain and France respectively.

In second place overall and top Women's team was Anne Haubjerg Olesen and Katja Visby Sevndsen just three points ahead of third placed Niclas Holt and Bertram Valeur Olsen, both also from Denmark.

So, despite the light conditions, a good weekend was enjoyed by all, with great spirit amongst the fleet who are looking forward to racing in again in the 29er EuroCup #6 in Workum, Holland this weekend 18th-21st May.
