Nikki's view on safety at sea

Outremer coach Nikki Henderson's word of advice on how to keep a boat and its crew safe and sound.

Life at sea, with its truck load of unforgettable moments, can also have its down times. However prepared you may think you are, nature has a funny way of taking you by surprise once in a while.

As Nikki Henderson puts it: "One approach that instructors often take is to teach students to avoid ending up in bad weather in the first place. This is an admirable starting point, and prevention is certainly better than cure. However, it is by no means fool proof. Because sailing is unpredictable.

"Our sport has no stable ground, no stillness, and no stop button. It is always shifting and changing."
