In the picturesque coastal town of Vilanova i La Geltrú, Spain, the second day of the 37th America's Cup Preliminary Regatta witnessed a resurgence by New York Yacht Club American Magic as they secured victory. The team arrived with clear determination, ready to redeem themselves after a challenging opening day of racing.

The morning brought a promising increase in wind conditions, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown as six boats lined up for an exhilarating day of racing.

Entering the final day of the preliminary regatta, American Magic found themselves in fifth place. It appeared to be an uphill battle to reclaim their position and secure a spot in the prestigious Match-Race Grand Final. However, what unfolded on the waters of Vilanova i La Geltrú demonstrated a high level of mental fortitude.

The quartet of Tom Slingsby, Paul Goodison, Riley Gibbs, and Michael Menninger orchestrated a nearly flawless display of high-pressure regatta sailing. Through consistent starting, boat handling, and boat speed, they capitalized on every opportunity, securing a series of 2-1-1 across the day's three races. Today's performance serves as a testament to the entire team, which did a fantastic job preparing the sailors for the event.

For those who had closely followed American Magic's training sessions in Barcelona and Pensacola, Florida, this triumph was the logical culmination of months of incremental progress. Under the watchful guidance of Skipper and President of Sailing Operations Terry Hutchinson and Coach Tom Burnham, the team frequently honed their skills in the AC40. Today, they displayed their consistency on the water and showcased their determination to win the 37th America's Cup.

Tom Slingsby, the Helmsman for NYYC American Magic, couldn't hide his elation: "That was amazing, we put it together, and yeah, we got the result. After being in fifth place last night, going into today and getting a 2-1-1 and taking the win, that's amazing."

Paul Goodison, also a Helmsman for NYYC American Magic, expressed his gratitude: "We have a much bigger team than the four of us standing up here; we have a lot of people back at the base. A lot of friends and family supporters here today. And we want to say a massive thank you to all of you guys for everything you do for the team. Everything you do for us. Thank you."

While the sailors rightfully claimed the limelight, this triumph was a testament to the collective endeavor of the entire NYYC American Magic team. From the dedicated shore crew to the innovative design team and all those working tirelessly behind the scenes, including families providing unwavering support, their dedication and tireless work were integral to this victory.

The unwavering support of principals Doug DeVos and Hap Fauth, steadfast even in the face of adversity, underscored their deep commitment to the sport and the team. Their enduring belief in American Magic has been a driving force behind the team's endeavors.

The day promised an even grander spectacle with the much-anticipated match race final on the horizon. However, despite NYYC American Magic's remarkable performance, nature had its own plans. As the teams geared up for the ultimate showdown, the wind retreated, leaving the racecourse becalmed. Unfortunately, the time limit for reaching the first mark was exceeded, leading to the cancellation of the match race final. While the final act remained unrealized, it couldn't diminish American Magic's performance throughout the preliminary regatta.

American Magic's triumph in Vilanova i La Geltrú symbolizes the extraordinary power of teamwork and unwavering resilience in challenging circumstances. As the team sets their sights on the ultimate goal, the 37th America's Cup, this victory is a testament to their capabilities and resolute determination.
