World ARC 2023-24 arrive in Reunion

by World Cruising Club 29 Oct 2023 03:49 UTC

All the World ARC 2023-24 fleet are now in Le Port, Reunion after completing Leg 12. Starting just 132nm away in Port Louis, Mauritius, the leg is somewhat unique to the World ARC as it encompasses only one night at sea - a stark contrast from Leg 11, the 2350nm crossing from Cocos (Keeling) Islands to Mauritius!

This meant just 4hrs and 32minutes separated the first and last boat crossing the finishing line. All boats were checked in on the same day meaning everyone was able to celebrate together with our fantastic hosts from the Reunion Tourism Office at the Leg 12 Prizegiving.

Since being in Reunion we have been keeping up the tempo! The following day the World ARC Tour visited Les Pitons de La Fornaise - a shield volcano in the south of the island. After stopping at an impressive viewpoint near the top, we continued to our next stop nearby the main caldera. The weather was very forgiving, and at an altitude of over 2000m it was obvious how things could change! As we made way on foot we reached out final destination, the edge of the cliff looking down onto the caldera.

The views were stunning! This week the fleet continue exploring Reunion before we head to our next stop, Richards Bay in South Africa.
